Help Megan with Life Saving Treatment

Hello, my name is Amanda, aunt of the beautiful Megan, aged 8. I am setting up this fundraiser for my brother Gerard, Megan’s father to help him and his partner cover the medical costs and any other expenses for their daughter as she receives life saving treatment in Sweden.

Funds

I will be handling all funds and transferring them directly to my brother. If we raise more than is needed, we will donate it to the hospital in Sweden that is currently caring for Megan and also some to Crumlin Children’s Hospital towards life saving equipment. All funds donated will be used on all of Megan’s medical expenses and any other expenses that may arise such as aftercare if her treatment is successful (please god) she will need physiotherapy and may need occupational therapy and rehabilitation. We would also like to help my brother and his partner with their expenses so they can have a comfortable stay in Sweden with their daughter while she receives life saving treatment without the need of any extra financial worry or stress.

Right now, we are unsure of Megan’s length of stay in Sweden, and we just have to take it day by day and keep praying that her treatment will go well and all will be successful . It could be days, weeks or months. I will continue to update you all as much as possible. This is any parent’s worse nightmare.

Megan’s Story

Over the last week, Megan has been really ill in Intensive Care on ventilation. As you can imagine it has been a sleepless, worrying, heart aching time for my brother, his partner and all our family.

Megan has always been a happy, healthy child who has never been sick so for this to happen to her so suddenly has brought absolute devastating shock to our family. Megan developed a chest infection and was treated with antibiotics by her GP, she seemed a little out of sorts like any other child who is feeling under the weather but was still her normal little self but within days our worse nightmare unfolded and Megan’s chest infection turned into pneumonia and caused damage to both of her lungs which affected her breathing and she couldn’t breath on her own so was put on life support. As the days unfolded, we had little hope each day for Megan as we were told some reassuring news that her oxygen is increasing and she is having slight progress. However on Monday, 13th Feb we received the worse possible news any family could ever imagine, Megan lungs were too weak for ventilation and they were even more damaged, inflamed and punctured and she needed extra life support. She had no chance of survival in Crumlin and they could no longer care for her in their Intensive Care Unit.

Megan had to be airlifted to Sweden immediately to have life saving treatment as they haven’t got the equipment here or the trained staff to save her life.

With this treatment, Megan has a 50-60% chance of survival. This gives our family some hope for our little princess. Sweden is the only place in the world that specializes in this type of treatment.

Firstly, I am asking all of you to please keep Megan in your prayers, please light a candle for her, get a mass said, she is just 8 years old and has her whole life ahead of her.

Secondly, if everyone could please please donate whatever you can even if it’s as little as one euro please as this will mean the world to all our family. No amount is too little. The last thing my brother and his partner need right now is the added stress and worry of bills while going through all of this.
