Support Megan’s Cancer Treatment

It is with a sad heart that we have created this GoFund me account. Our courageous friend Megan Duncan has battled hard against her breast cancer diagnosis over the past 18 months. She’s undergone chemotherapy, a mastectomy and radiation. However, despite all these valiant efforts, the cancer has returned and she was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer.

She and Jeff and Flo have moved back to Victoria and she is receiving excellent treatment but unfortunately at this stage, her treatment plan is focused on comfort care.

Just 10 months ago, through a private collection, we were able to raise over $2000 to support Megan and Jeff while she was going through her chemotherapy. This was hugely helpful to them for housecleaning services and food preparation etc.

We are now turning to a wider group of friends and family. We are asking that people contribute whatever they can to help this couple as they try to focus their priorities on creating a comfortable healing space for Megan. Any little bit helps as Megan is currently on disability and therefore on reduced pay.

As of January 6, Megan will be working with a very experienced and well-respected Naturopath in Victoria, Dr. Neil McKinney, who specializes in cancer care. Dr. McKinney is a pioneer and leader in naturopathic integrative cancer care in the country. Megan’s goal of working with Dr. McKinney is to be treated medically as a whole person (as opposed to only treating the cancer) and to use natural therapies to build up the body and immune system to help the chemotherapy drugs work as effectively as possible. 

As Naturopathic medicine is a private practice, and the natural therapies (vitamins, tinctures and supplements, etc.) are not covered by a drug plan, working with Dr. McKinney will be a significant expense for Megan and Jeff. 

Funds collected through this GoFund me account will go to supporting Megan in covering the costs of this integrative care.

In addition to this GoFund Me, our Ottawa Little Theatre family plans to hold a 1 Night Only Review in the spring. A night of friends and family getting together for a showcase of talents performing music, monologues and scenes. Proceeds for that event will go towards an RESP for Florence. Please stay tuned for the date to be announced.
