Help Megan Continue Creating Community!

My car, “Lil Red”, a 2003 Corolla, that I cherish, broke on my birthday this year, which was Sunday April 6th. It was my biggest fear come true, rather than my biggest dream come true. It is nearing 300K on the odometer. The problems have mounted to a point where there is no quick, inexpensive fix. I have been limping it along for the past two years. Everyday I drove it I felt I was taking my life in my hands. The times when I was unable to help people because it would be irresponsible to put a child, elderly or disabled person in the car were heartbreaking. I routinely travel around four counties (Travis, Hays, Bastrop and Williamson) connecting, checking in on and building networks of people to spread the word about our common humanity.

As many of you know, I have been devoting my time to launching a grassroots non profit, Together Everyone Achieves More Central Texas (TEAMCTX). Our goal at TEAMCTX is to create meaningful, long term, healthy relationships rooted in a network of natural communities, which blossom into chosen family, to provide emotional and material support for single people experiencing homelessness. There has been so much enthusiasm and encouragement this year while we’ve been jumpstarting the core initiatives! I know TEAMCTX can realize real change for those living in Austin without a home. To continue this work I need your help to get a functional car. This is an emergency request which is outside the scope of general funding for the organization.

I've done my absolute best to take care of this vehicle and have owned it for close to ten years, but it is no longer a viable option for my transportation. I need something reliable and lower maintenance so I can continue generating income from paid part time work, in addition to the hours of love I am putting into building TEAMCTX. A vehicle enables me to go to conferences, trainings, networking and volunteer opportunities, coalition and individual meetings. I am purposeful about my activities. It is a tool to lift up many people. It is the helper mobile. My car is not a luxury.

I don’t have family, so I am turning to you for help. My only prayer when I squeeze my eyes shut, or look to the sky is, “God Help Me…So I Can Help Others”. God works through us. This is taking a lot for me to ask for assistance. In so many ways I try to smile, hold it together, not be a burden and practice being the change I seek. Sometimes in life we need to lead with vulnerability. I am deeply grateful for your generosity.
