My name is Megan, I live outside of Savannah, GA, and my home sustained significant water damage from Tropical Storm Debby and Hurricane Helene. My homeowner's insurance covered some interior damages, but nothing on the exterior. I paid about $20,000 out of pocket to repair the exterior, and my contractors have been working on the inside of the house. We just discovered a toxic black mold infestation inside all of walls, the entire subfloor, and load bearing beams of my house. My contractor said it is by far the worst he has ever seen in 33 years of doing remediation work.
This has turned into a total catastrophe, and now I am looking at over $200,000 not covered by insurance.
I am a 31-year-old single mom to the best 10-year-old around, Liam, and I am a self-employed. I have been suffering from severe auto immune illnesses over the last few years and now that we have uncovered the mold, it is clear that has been the cause of everything. I cannot believe we have been living in a toxic home. As you can imagine, this has been and will continue to be an incredibly overwhelming situation.
Asking for help is so outside of my comfort zone, and it is taking a lot to swallow my pride and publicly ask for help. We greatly appreciate any donation you may be able to offer. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
