Help Megan and Joyce Through This Unexpected Fight
Hi, my name is Andrée, and I started this GoFundMe for my family because, honestly, none of us expected to be here.
On Sunday, August 29, Megan brought her mom, Joyce, to the emergency department because she knew something wasn't right. Within just four hours, everything changed.
Joyce was transferred by air to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, where doctors discovered two brain aneurysms, one of which had been slowly leaking.
What started as a trip to the emergency room quickly became an emergency that none of us were prepared for.
Joyce underwent brain surgery to stop the bleeding and prevent blood from continuing to pool in her brain. Thankfully, she made it through that first surgery and has successfully completed this stage of treatment.
But this isn't over.
Joyce is still in a critical stage of recovery. There are serious risks during this part of the healing process, including cerebral vasospasm, which could potentially mean another procedure or surgery. Right now, we don't know exactly what her recovery will look like or how long this journey will be.
And while Joyce is fighting to heal, Megan is trying to hold everything else together.
She's trying to be there for her mom, make decisions, care for Joyce's dog Rain, prepare for whatever Mom will need when she eventually comes home, manage her own family, and somehow keep everything else from falling apart.
Megan and her husband have also spent the last four months building their small construction business from the ground up. It's only four months old. They are still establishing themselves, still working to build their future, and suddenly they have been thrown into a situation where none of that matters as much as making sure Mom is okay.
Being away from home comes with costs that don't stop just because your world has suddenly changed.
There are hotel rooms, food, gas, parking, travel, and basic necessities. And as Joyce's recovery continues, there may be rehabilitation, therapy, transportation, and other expenses that we simply cannot predict yet.
We're not asking for help because we want anything extra.
We're asking because no family should have to face something like this alone, and right now, we need a little help carrying the weight.
Joyce is a mom, a grandmother, a sister, and a friend. She is loved by so many people. She has a laugh you remember, a smile that can change a room, and those one-liners that somehow always come at exactly the right time.
She is Mémé to Liam, Serenity, Nolan and Flynn, and to all of the grandchildren and family who love her.
Right now, we just want our Mom back.
We want her to have the chance to heal, to come home, to laugh again, to make her one-liners, and to be surrounded by the people who love her.
We know not everyone can donate, and that's okay. If you can help, even a small donation makes a difference. If you can't, sharing this fundraiser, checking in, sending a message, or simply keeping Joyce in your thoughts means more than you know.
Every bit of support helps take some of the pressure off Megan and our family so we can concentrate on the thing that matters most right now:
Getting Joyce through this. ❤️
Thank you to everyone who has already donated, shared, reached out, prayed, checked in, or simply thought of Joyce and our family.
We are incredibly grateful.
We will continue to share updates as Joyce's journey continues.
