Help Meg Shoemaker Rebuild After Eaton Fire
Donation protected
We're friends of Meg Shoemaker here in Los Angeles. We're creating this fundraiser to support meg who was displaced during the Eaton Fire. We've known meg since we were in college at CCA together. She's always been the kind of person to nourish and grow community, through teaching yoga, organizing events, through her art, and her bright, creative spirit.
For all she's given, we're hoping to call on our communities to give back to her during this important moment in her life.
The Eaton Fire completely turned her world upside down. Like so many others in her neighborhood, she's been displaced from her home, and her life. She's been trying to teach her full time classes at Kinship Yoga in the midst of looking for a new apartment, and organizing her left over belonging from her car.
The fire left the entire town of Altadena in ruins. Over 9,000 structures were reduced to ash. The house she was renting still stands, but as we've all learned, the fire created a hazmat zone filled with toxic materials like lead, asbestos, and volatile chemical compounds that still linger in the air.
Meg has been waiting to hear from FEMA and insurance but is realizing there is little they will do as the house “made it” — however, all the furniture and objects inside are toxic. Once the cleanup is complete—likely a year from now—she'll face a second round of smoke remediation, entirely out of pocket, since insurance won’t cover it.
This money will go towards replacing all of her belongings, from smalls things (clothes and linens) to larger things (a new mattress and furniture).
Your kindness and support mean the world to us. Whether it’s a donation or simply sharing her story, anything you can do to help would be deeply appreciated. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with Meg as she rebuilds her life. With community, we know she'll come out stronger than before.
