Help Meg get top surgery
Hi! My name is Meg, and I have a complicated relationship with my chest. It's time for us to consciously uncouple, but unlike most breakups, this one has a deductible and surgical out-of-pocket obligations.
In all seriousness, I have never wanted breasts. Their growth when I was a child was borderline traumatic. I have spoken many, many times over the years about wanting them removed or reduced. Friends and family have reached out to affirm this as over the last year I've transitioned to a nonbinary gender identity. I never wanted a fully male chest, though, and I had only seen breast reduction results that looked like my present state. I resigned myself to a life of having boobs.
Last year I learned that gender-affirming, nonbinary top surgery is now an option. I can get a radical reduction with end results that reflect what I've always wanted. The fragile peace I'd made with my tatas was shattered. I want them off.
I am fortunate to have insurance coverage that has an agreement with my surgeon, Dr. Facque at the Gender Confirmation Center in San Francisco. I have consulted, seen therapists, been referred by doctors, and have a surgery date: September 20! It's really happening!!
Like many of us, the pandemic has been hard on me. I have savings numbered in just the hundreds of dollars, and credit card and loan debt to which much of my monthly earnings are funneled. I am seeking support from my loved ones for this surgery. Here is the breakdown:
- $1450: my remaining deductible for this year.
- $2000: the maximum charge for the surgical center, which is out of network.
- $2050: approximately 20% of other eligible expenses, as required to be paid by me by insurance.
- Total: $5500
This payment is due in a lump sum to the GCC by August 20.
I will be responsible for paying my rent, bills, and utilities while I am recovering from surgery (one month).
Please only donate if you're able to do so. Again, this has been an incredibly challenging year for us all. Even just a kind word and a share helps. Thank you.
