Help Meg Fight Colon Cancer

Our good friend Meg has been dealing with health issues for months now and hasn’t been able to work full-time since the beginning of October. We’re here to make sure that she and her wife, Sarah-Grace, get the help they need to pay their bills and support themselves through a very stressful time.

This past February, after months of being sick, Meg was diagnosed with a large tumor in her sigmoid colon. After it was surgically removed, the tumor and 4 of the 21 lymph nodes they removed were confirmed to be cancerous, and she received a formal diagnosis of Stage 3 Colon Cancer. Now, less than 3 weeks after her partial colectomy, she has learned she will undergo 6 months of chemo treatments starting on May 5th, delaying her return to work until the end of fall at the earliest.

Meg has been on medical leave since the beginning of October and hasn’t properly worked full-time since September. Those of us who are close to her know how desperately she has looked for answers and how exhausting this process has been. She is currently receiving some income from state disability payments (which is way less than her normal hourly wages), but unfortunately, the payments are inconsistent and dependent on many different moving pieces that don’t always work properly. This, combined with Sarah’s full-time earnings, isn’t quite enough to keep up with their rent and bills, including health care coverage that she now pays for directly. This treatment schedule also means they've had to cancel her 30th birthday trip that was scheduled for the middle of August. Overall, the financial stress is definitely impacting her health, especially at a time when she needs to rest and heal.

The funds raised will go towards:

  • Rent for Meg and Sarah’s apartment, as well as their utility bills
  • Meg’s health insurance costs
  • Supplies and medical accessories to assist with chemotherapy
  • Other recurring bills such as car insurance and student loans
  • Groceries and food delivery, and other essentials

And any additional funds will go towards paying off the credit card debt that has accumulated during the months of not earning a full wage, and establishing a financial safety net for the coming months.

Many of you know Meg as a passionate, energetic person who loves her job and loves her friends. She worked so hard to achieve her goal of becoming a tour guide at Disneyland and misses spending her days in the parks. This is also very personal to her and her family, as her Uncle David passed away after a battle with colon cancer seven years ago. This long illness and recent diagnosis are taking a huge mental and emotional toll on her well-being, and we just want to make sure she’s supported.

Any amount helps, whether $1 or $10, and the biggest thing you can do is share this so that more people can hear her story and contribute. You’re also welcome to reach out to us, her close friends, directly for other ways you can help.
