For those of you that do not know me, my name is Amanda and I am Meeka’s (a beautiful black lab mix’s) human sister. My parents brought her home to me my last year of high school when she was only 5 weeks old and she has brought so much joy to my life every day since.
Meeka has always been a loving and energetic dog. She loves to go walking, running, camping, hunting, fishing, swimming, etc. About a year and a half ago, we noticed that she would start limping once in a while after long walks or runs. We would let her rest and then she seemed fine. After a couple of months of this, we brought her to the veterinarian, and she didn’t have any swelling and was not in any pain so we went home hoping that it would get better with time. This winter she got a lot worst. She has been in constant pain and is not able to go for walks more than 5 minutes a couple of times a week. She has been on supplements, and sometimes receives pain medication, but it is not enough anymore. We have gotten X-rays for her and it showed that she has an ACL injury as well as a possible meniscus injury. Because of this she is in need of surgery. The surgery she will be having is Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO).
I am currently a student working part-time and living with my parents. I have been trying to raise the money to be able to pay for the surgery but I am not succeeding on my own. Meeka is only 6 years old and she deserves to live a full and happy life.
The surgery she needs is not performed in our area; therefor we will need to travel to be able to bring her to a specialist, so that she can receive the best care possible. With this specialist she will receive more tests and then she will get the surgery she needs. The money collected will go a long way helping with the additional tests, her surgery, travel costs as well as post op care.
Anything you can afford to donate would be greatly appreciated and would help Meeka live the life she truly deserves.
