Help Medea Get to Unworldly Ensemble

Unworldly Ensemble Co-founders; Asha Bryant-Agard and Herbert Benjamin are working on their 4th show of their Opening Season as a company. This company was created to raise awareness, help others heal, create a safe space for actors, trained and untrained. We create theatre for the people, not "theatre people" we invite everyone to come in and We are reflecting the community by using the community, now we need help from the community.

Since February we have been using our own money to create magic with every show we did. We are now asking for some help, this is the biggest show we've done so far. The Medea is a project that reflects so many women today. A broken heart, a broken family, infidelity, betrayal, orphan, death, manipulation, crazy? or traumatic? Women take so many bullets that aren't meant for them and are still expected to keep standing. We would like to raise awareness and use Medea's voice as a woman and a mother, not just the "evil" Goddess that everyone is so used to hearing about. Our version of Medea is Inspired by Black southern spirituality and the improvisation of jazz set in an Afro-futuristic world. Medea like you've never seen her, unveiled.

This project will be the biggest one we've done so far. It's the first production where we will be able to have our actors in person. We are so excited to be able to do shows in person again. We will film this show so it's available for audience members to stream at home. This will be filmed in a very unique space that lends itself to the world of the play. We do need equipment (mics, sound system, recording system, and editing software) to make this happen as well as a costume and housing budget for our team. The beauty of our work comes from the amazing team we have from different areas. We want to make sure we can highlight their work in this piece. In order to do that we need to give them the tools they need. Please help us in doing that so we can create more opportunities for artists in the future.

Below is a link to our website, where you can see our mission as well as past performances. There are also some photos of two of our past productions of Jesus Hopped The 'A' Train by Stephen Adly Guirgis and Soldier's Heart by Tammy Ryan. We also held a project called Word Play where we showcased some Original works from 4 Playwrights.
