Hello everyone,
My name is Victor and I am trying to raise money for a hospital bill.
In the middle of last December, I was suffering from a serious illness, with a high fever and upper respiratory problems that ultimately lead me to seek emergency care, as I could not wait for a doctor's appointment. I had already lost two weeks of work and was falling behind on my bills.
I was not admitted to the hospital, after being in the ER for over 12 hours. I was given a battery of tests, bloodwork, labwork, CT scan and a series of X-rays. I was also administered heavy dosages of medication and eventually sent home.
It took an additional two weeks to begin regaining my health, and I was out of work for an entire month at this point.
My insurance rejected much of the claim, (originally billed in the amount of 41,000 dollars) and I was left with out-of-pocket expenses totaling in the amount of 8,000 dollars.
When I was physically able, I spoke with the billing department about the potential for financial assistance for this bill, and the hospital rejected my application, due to the fact that I am an insured patient and parts of my claim were paid.
I offered the hospital a monthly payment plan of 150 dollars a month. They rejected this offer and demanded payments in the amount of no less than 300 dollars per month, which I simply can not afford on top of my bills, rent, and other living expenses.
I tried negotiating a lump sum settlement amount that was rejected as well. They are telling me that it will go to collections, and even talking to me on the phone about a potential garnishment of my wages. ( I currently work 60 hours a week, but am still below the poverty level).
Any help in paying this bill would be greatly appreciated, as my inquiries for a patient advocate have also led to a dead end.
I hope I can get help with this.
