Hello, my name is Karen—also known as “Kaley”

I never imagined I’d be writing a letter like this.

It all started in March 2025 from a 23andMe DNA test I took on a whim. That simple decision changed everything. I found out I carry the BRCA1 gene mutation, which significantly increases the risk of breast, ovarian, and pancreatic cancers. I shared the results with my doctor, who ordered further testing — and then came the diagnosis no one ever wants to hear: Stage 3 ovarian cancer. I had zero symptoms. My world changed overnight.

Within a week, I underwent a major hysterectomy and spent eight days in the hospital. I’m going through chemotherapy, doing everything in my power to stay strong and hopeful—but my journey is far from over.

On May 13th, I’ll undergo a double mastectomy—the first of four major surgeries that are scheduled through 2026 and will take two years to complete.

A Little About Me

I have an active, vibrant, friendly + hopeful personality and live with my two sweet dogs, Ziggy and Remy. They are my constant companions. Even on the hardest days their unconditional love gives me comfort, purpose, and peace. Without any immediate family to rely on, my close friends support me. However, I now need additional support beyond my friendship circle.

I’ve created this GoFundMe because, without a job or a traditional support system, I can’t do this alone. Your support will help me cover:
