Help Me Walk Normal...& Maybe Yoke Walk Again
August 10th of 2019 I suffered a very bad and dream-crushing knee injury on my quest to break some strongman records and qualify for World's Strongest Man. I have yet to be able to straighten my leg since. I had ACL reconstruction and surgery to my meniscus September 25th, 2019 with notable bone micro-fracturing.
Despite insurance and some savings this injury has cost me way more than expected. There have been numerous complications and roadblocks requiring expensive braces, more physical therapy than expected, more imaging, etc. Now the procedures I need are not covered by insurance at all putting a stress to already dwindling funds.
The surgery has had me miss work from both my jobs which are physical in nature, one being a receiver for a university food service unloading trucks and the other a personal trainer demonstrating and coaching exercises . I have tried my best to work on crutches (going so far to demonstrate exercises on my good leg only) but sometimes I am not even given hours as light duty is not needed. When I was able to work both jobs and weight bear the injury got significantly worse.
I am now back to crutches again after recent imaging showed a worsening condition in my knee that they want to use stem cell and PRP with to attempt to heal. I will likely be non-weight bearing a month or more and light duty for many months after that insuring I will lose more hours of work. Stem cell and PRP are both not covered at all with insurance and estimated $4100 for the procedure. I have reduced spending to bare minimum with no eating out or entertainment, reduced quality foods and supplements even going so far to not even drive to a gym to see my friends because of gas money.
I hope that stem cell and PRP will heal my knee enough to then continue modalities to get it to straighten out. Since August I have never walked without a limp and it is very concerning as I am only 27 years old.
I feel terribly lame and embarrassed to set this up. I have delayed for a long time thinking I could handle all that is being thrown at me but I am rather overwhelmed. I really want to get back to normal again. I would love get back to strongman too where I was able to use my gifts to inspire and help others through donations from prize money won. I feel I can use strongman as a great tool if only I can get back to it.
I am setting this up in hopes of donations if and only if I have added value to your life or you are interested in seeing what future entertainment value I can bring to the sport of strongman. I am thankful for any and all donations and if you leave an address I will make sure to return something as a token of m gratitude. God Bless you all and make sure to get MRIs for knee pain before you snap one in half :)
