Help Me Turn My NYFA Dream Into A Reality

Hi, my name is Jasmin and I’ve been given a life-changing opportunity to study at the New York Film Academy (NYFA) in Los Angeles, one of the world’s more prestigious institutions for aspiring filmmakers, screenwriters and actors. For someone like me, a young mixed-race woman coming from an inner city community in Liverpool, Toxteth. Where opportunities like this seem out of reach, this is more than just a dream - it’s a second chance to rewrite my story and change the course of my life.

I haven’t had the easiest start. Growing up, I’ve experienced my share of hardship and loss. I struggled with my mental health as a result of some of the experiences I had. Those challenges have made me realize how important it is to make the most out of life and the opportunities it presents. I’ve lost people who never had the chance to fulfill their potential and that loss has driven me to take control of my future and show others that no matter what cards you’ve been dealt, you can rise above it. There were times when hope seemed distant, but my passion for storytelling has always been my anchor, helping me believe in a better future. Through these personal struggles, I’ve realised that storytelling has the power to heal, inspire and change lives. I’m determined to use my voice and talent to make a difference in the world through film.

I am proud to say I was honored with a Service and Leadership Award, a recognition of my commitment to driving positive change within my community. Where I come from, many people can’t see beyond the street lifestyle and it’s all too easy to feel trapped by your circumstances. I’ve made it my mission to show that there is another way - to inspire people and prove that growth, success and a brighter future are possible, no matter where you start.

But here’s the reality: I don’t have the financial means to get there on my own. The cost of tuition, health insurance and living expenses is far beyond what I can afford.
