Help me to run again!!

I  am helping a friend in Uganda raise money for an operation (Tracy W)…Here is his story in his own words (with a little assistance):

My name is Gerald Twinamasiko and I am 23 years old currently living in Masaka, Central Uganda. I love playing football and every Thursday I would go on long runs with my friends at the Masaka Runners Club.

That was until April 2019 when I suffered a sudden unfortunate accident while playing the game I love. During the training match for football another team member he performed a sliding tackle knocking me off my feet and causing an open fracture of my right tibia and fibula.

There was no specific orthopedic care available at the local hospital, but I was treated with medicines and splinting.

What the problem is now.

8 months down the track the leg has healed but with significant deformity. There is a large angle on the fracture site and my right leg is shorter than the left.

I can no longer run or play sports. This led to a period of depression which I am starting to come out of now.

The leg still hurts me from time to time, I have difficulty walking and fulfilling the duties I need to carry out to earn money.

What needs to be done.

Medical specialists have told me that I will need an operation to re-break the leg and pin it in a correct position. The thought of this operation scares me but not being able to run again would be even worse.

Uganda is a country of 44 million people, but they are only about 28 orthopedic surgeons. It is difficult to access the care I need and relative to my income I would not be able to afford it.

This is why I am starting this fundraising page, hoping to reach out anyone that can assist me in realizing my dream of running and playing football again.

Breakdown of the costs.

In Ugandan hospitals you are required a person who cares for you 24 hours at the bed side, usually a relative or friend. That is why transport, food, and accommodation would need to cover both of us.

Target of fundraising.

The initial target turned out to be a gross underestimate. I am only aiming for just enough to get me through the surgery. The costs have been revised after the outpatient consultation. 

I am aiming for a target of 9.5 million Ugandan shillings or $2800.00 USD or $4300 AUD. 

So you can see, we are hoping to tally small amount to make a very big difference.
