Help me to help one brave Belarusian student

This month I was asked to mentor one brave student from Belarus. He was enrolled in a tourism management programme similar to the one I did several years ago. I know what does it mean to protest in order to get the fundamental rights for education. The lyceum I did in Minsk - the Belarusian Humanities Lyceum named after Yakub Kolas was closed by current president Lukashenka in early 2000, as it was too Belarusian. Then the university I did – European Humanities University, was closed in 2004 by the same President as it was too European. My friends and I were active in the protests. My parents were fined for participating in the protests.  

What we did not experience though is the cruelty of Lukashenka and his supporters, still in 2020, that are aggressively attacking all the people of Belarus, including students.  

My mentee stayed in prison, was fined, was expelled from his university, risked to be sent to the national army, only because he openly expressed his position and disagreed with the falsifications in the presidential elections and the violence against people by the riot police. 

He is among other 100+ students that were expelled from their universities since August 2020. We have university professors that lost their jobs, along with students that are still in the prison of KGB.   

My mentee managed to escape the country first to Ukraine, then to Poland. He is safe in Warsaw now and is preparing for the new online semester at one of the European universities.
