My name is Tyler Gilley and here is my story.
I am almost 29 years old and up until two month ago, I thought I was a relatively health young man. Four weeks ago, I was diagnosed with Stage 4, Large B cell non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I never thought I would be diagnosed with cancer and find myself fighting for my life. Somehow it seems unfair. Not because this is happening to me but because seven years ago, I had to watch my twin brother Kyle go through his battle with cancer. But no one ever said life is fair so I guess now it’s my turn. Fortunately, Kyle kicked his cancer and I am grateful to have my brother with me today to help me go through this trying time in my life.
When I was diagnosed, I discovered the cancer had already spread throughout my body, into my bone marrow and into some of my organs (liver and spleen). It affected my red and white blood cell production and I was extremely anemic when they checked me into the hospital.
I’m about to start my second round of Chemotherapy as part of the initial treatment phase that will take 18-22 weeks. From there, my doctors will do a spinal tap to see if the lymphoma has spread to my central nervous system. If it has, that will set off another series of treatments. Ultimately I will undergo a bone marrow transplant designed to eradicate the cancer and hopefully keep it from coming back.
A few of my close friends encouraged me to start a Go Fund Me account because all of the treatments along with my compromised immune system will make working extremely difficult through most of the processes. It’s unknown at the point how much insurance will cover and how many bills I will be left having to manage. If you are able, I would greatly appreciate any and all donations. They will go to pay the plethora of hospital and medical bills I will have over the coming months and years. God, family and friends will get me through this and again thank you for all your support.
