Help Me Take this Amazing Opportunity
Hey all, my name is Cinthia. I am a first-generation college student and DACA recipient who is finishing her last semester at Yale, but taking some time off before it. Through the help of many kind souls, I was able to find an internship at Central American Legal Assistance (CALA), a nonprofit that provides free or low-cost legal services to New York’s immigrant community. The unique work they do, in protecting and defending Central and South American asylum-seekers and their civil rights, is really worthwhile to me. As a Central American immigrant myself, this is the type of work I want to do in the long run, and working with CALA would allow me to gather some experience firsthand.
The logistical issue is that CALA, as a small nonprofit, cannot afford to give me much for my work, and living in Brooklyn (where they are based) is going to come with many expenses. The financial burden would be too much to ask of my parents so I am fundraising here. The $4,000 would help offset expenses for housing, utilities, food, and transportation in NYC.
Thank you for any and all help!
