Beloved friends, family, fellow travelers, Vietnam-lovers, education supporters:
I am about to embark on a journey that I never knew possible until recently - combining my love of traveling the world and educating young people with a field trip to VIETNAM!!
If you know me, you know I am deeply passionate about Vietnam and if you really know me, you’ve seen my journey from a study abroad student to Vietnam English teacher to California educator. We might have been in Vietnam together briefly. We might have trekked together in Sapa, did a boat cruise in Ha Long, or shared many nights together chatting on a street in Saigon.
You must then know how incredible of an opportunity this is for my high school students, to join me on a 10-day trip across the country. Imagine how your teenage world would have been transformed if you did, not just any trip to Vietnam, but an organized educational tour where they interview locals, learn Vietnamese culture and history, earn high school and college credit, all with their classmates and me, their teacher.
Many of my students do not come from privileged backgrounds. Their parents work very hard. We serve a community that does not have the resources for something like this. That is exactly why I am pushing so hard to make this happen for my kids. Many of them have never even traveled beyond Southern California. I know that this trip would have a profound impact on their lives (and college apps). A lot of you do too.
Please help me make this dream a reality. I am coordinating with Education First, which provides a safe and jam-packed educational experience for them. Each student needs to come up with $3500 by June 2020. Any amount of money that you donate to this fundraiser would make the trip more affordable for them. Seriously, anything you could give would help. This does not pay for my trip. The money will be divided equally among all enrolled students.
If you can’t donate, I would also appreciate:
1) any ideas for continued fundraising (we have more than a year before our trip)
2) Any additional middle or high school students that would like to join (deadline March 2 for $200 discount!) The more students go the more teachers can join and the greater the educational experience.
