Hi reader,
After years of failed treatments and multiple procedures, I lost my left thumb, and eventually my left hand to pleomorphic sarcoma. I went into my final surgery thinking I would adjust quickly, telling myself it won’t be so bad since I still have my right hand. But the reality has been far more difficult than I ever imagined.
Simple, everyday tasks are now painfully overwhelming, especially as I live alone. I’m struggling with phantom pain in my residual limb, debilitating pain in my right arm & neck due to overuse, and severe depression. This challenge has been impossible for me to process. Life as I once knew it has completely changed, and as determined as I am to move forward, I know that I can’t do it on my own.
I’m hoping to raise funds that would go towards things that aren’t accessible through my health insurance policy like getting different prosthetic devices tailored to my specific needs & lifestyle, adaptive daily living aids to make tasks easier, and physical therapies that help manage chronic pain.
Your support, in any amount, would mean more than I can express. It would contribute to me reaching my fundraising goal; which will then help me regain my independence to an extent, heal from this traumatic experience, and rebuild my life with my new normal; one day at a time.
With so much gratitude,
Amari
