Hello! My name is Lázaro S. Cabán Cabrera. I am an undergraduate student at the university of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras, majoring in physics and pure mathematics. I recently accepted an offer to do a master’s in mathematical physics at the University of Edinburgh. I am extremely happy to have received this opportunity, but funding is still a huge barrier for entry. I was expecting to benefit from the FAFSA graduate direct PLUS loans, but that opportunity is no longer available as of 1 July 2026. I have applied to scholarships such as the Higgs scholarship and will still take out a FAFSA direct unsubsidized loan, but these may not cover the whole cost.
The 1-year program itself costs £32,000 (43,200 USD) and housing around £10,000 (≈ 13,500 USD), and then there’s the living costs which could be another £7,000-10,000. The funds will be used exactly as follows:
$43,200 for the program cost
≈$13,500 for housing and living costs cost
≈$1,000 for travel related costs
I will try to cover as much of the living costs as I can myself.
I have a burning passion for physics and mathematics and I’d like for this opportunity to not go to waste. Please help me pay for grad school! Any amount is appreciated!
