Hello, I am Gustavo Chapa- I am currently a senior studying biology at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. I have been given the opportunity to study abroad during the Summer in Costa Rica, funding permitted! What I will be studying is tropical bird conservation, which means I will be learning about the beautiful habitats in Costa Rica, and the magnificent species that call it home.

Through my Ornithology class this passing semester, I have developed a great interest in birds and all things related. I have traveled to many spots all over South Texas (and a bit of California!!) to admire and marvel at these works of nature. In doing so, I have also realized that there are many threats facing our bird populations.

The ability to study conservation of these feathered wonders would be life-changing. I have never been to Costa Rica so this opportunity to study birds and immerse myself in the rich history and culture of Costa Rica is something I don't want to pass up.

Hola, soy Gustavo Chapa, soy estudiante de último año de Biología en Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Se me ha brindado la oportunidad de estudiar en el extranjero durante el verano en Costa Rica, ¡Si permite mis finacas! Lo que estudiaré es la conservación de aves tropicales, lo cual significa que aprenderé sobre los hermosos hábitats de Costa Rica y las magníficas especies que los tienen como hogar.

A través de mi clase de Ornitología de este semestre, he desarrollado un gran interés por las aves y todo lo relacionado con ellas. He viajado a muchos lugares por todo el sur de Texas (¡¡y un poco por California!!) para admirar y maravillarme ante estas obras de la naturaleza. Al hacerlo, también me he percatado de que existen muchas amenazas que enfrentan nuestras poblaciones de aves.

La posibilidad de estudiar la conservación de estas maravillas emplumadas sería una experiencia que cambiaría mi vida. Nunca he estado en Costa Rica, por lo que esta oportunidad de estudiar las aves y sumergirme en la rica historia y cultura costarricense es algo que no quiero dejar pasar.
