My name is Maya, and I am a drummer from Mexico City with a dream that once felt impossible.

I didn’t grow up with unlimited resources or a clear path into the music world. What I did have was a deep love for rhythm—the kind that keeps you going even when things get hard. I’ve spent years practicing, learning, and pushing myself, holding onto the belief that music could take me somewhere bigger.

Today, that belief became real.

I was accepted into the jazz program at the University of Colorado Boulder—an opportunity that will allow me to study with world-class musicians, grow artistically, and build a future in music.

But here’s the difficult part:

Getting accepted was only the first step. Affording it is the real challenge.

Studying abroad comes with costs my family simply cannot cover alone—tuition, housing, food, transportation, and essential materials. Despite all the effort it took to get here, I am now facing the possibility of not being able to go.

That’s why I’m asking for your help.

This isn’t just about paying for school. It’s about not letting years of hard work stop here. It’s about giving a young musician the chance to grow, create, and represent her culture beyond borders.
