Hi, my name is Phoenix, and I am a junior at Kent State University pursuing a double major in Air Traffic Control and Teaching. I have been given the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy through the Kent State University Study Abroad Program, where I will take two academic courses connected to my aviation studies. This is much more than a trip for me. It is a chance to grow academically, personally, and professionally while earning credit toward my degree in an international setting.

What makes this opportunity especially meaningful is the chance to take coursework connected to my aviation major while living and learning in another country. Opportunities like this are rare, and I know this experience will broaden my perspective, strengthen my education, and help prepare me for my future career. I am also excited to learn from Italy’s culture, history, art, music, food, and people through direct immersion.

I am doing my part to make this opportunity possible. I currently work on campus, I am interviewing for an additional part-time job, and I apply for at least one scholarship each week. I have also spent several years helping conduct orientation tours for incoming freshmen and staying active in my Christian student group on campus. These experiences have strengthened my sense of responsibility, connection, and purpose.

Coming from a single-parent household, this added semester-related cost creates a real financial strain for both me and my mom. I am raising $6,500 to help cover tuition, program fees, travel and required course materials for this study abroad experience.
