My name is Stacey, and I am a 50-year-old woman who has been fighting end-stage metastatic breast cancer for six years. What began as a routine doctor’s appointment in 2019 turned into a whirlwind of surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy. Cancer has spread to my bones, lungs, and liver. I’ve had both femurs stabilized with rods, endured the amputation of my left leg and all toes on my right foot, and I am now completely wheelchair-bound.
Over the years, I’ve faced countless complications, including broken ribs that can’t heal, severe shoulder damage, and most recently congestive heart failure that requires oxygen. I continue treatment through New England Cancer Specialists, who have been incredible, but even getting to appointments has become increasingly difficult. I was blessed to receive an electric wheelchair, but because of its weight, I desperately need a safe, code-compliant wheelchair ramp to get in and out of my home.
Without this ramp, every appointment or emergency means my mother, who is my caregiver, has to risk her own safety trying to get me in and out. We’ve looked into accessibility programs, but the waitlists are too long, and I urgently need this before winter. The cost of installation is about $4,500, and unfortunately, I must cover it myself.
This ramp would give me back a small measure of independence, protect my mother, and ensure I can safely reach my treatments and emergency care when needed. Any help, no matter how small, would mean the world to me and my family. Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and support during this long fight.
