Help After Job Loss and Family Tragedy
Donation protected
I am reaching out for support to help cover my rent and utility costs for the next two months.
After being laid off from my Software Engineer position in July 2023, I took time to recover from burnout and focus on my health.
Unfortunately, in July 2024, my sister passed away unexpectedly, and I had to manage her estate and help figure out the custody arrangements for her two young children.
That same month, my cat Wyrm snuck out and fell from my 2nd story window and suffered ligament damage on both his front legs, leaving him completely immobile and in need of round-the-clock care for several months, with vet bills totaling to around $10,000 (fortunately, he's since made a full recovery).
This period of bereavement and added responsibility delayed my job search until January 2025.
Since then, I have been actively seeking employment, sending out over 600 job applications and making progress in various stages of the hiring process. To enhance my skills, I've earned two certificates from City College of San Francisco, completed several online courses, worked on personal projects, participated in mock interviews, and joined a small in-person study group for women in tech who are job hunting.
Despite these efforts, my savings, investments, and 401k have been depleted, and my unemployment benefits have run out. I am on the brink of securing a job offer, but I need a little more time to stabilize my situation.
My two cats, Cowboy and Wyrm, whom I adopted from my sister before her passing, have been an enormous source of comfort during this challenging and often overwhelming time. Having to move and potentially rehome them would not only add significant stress but also delay and distract from my job search, which needs to be be my highest priority. With your support, I hope to stay in my apartment for a few more months, allowing me to focus on securing employment and avoiding bankruptcy.
As my birthday approaches on June 1, your generosity could make all the difference in helping me get my life back on track.
Thank you for reading!
