Help Me Stay in My Home and Get Back on My Feet
Hi everyone,
I never thought I’d find myself in a position where I’d need to ask for help like this, but life has thrown me some serious challenges, and I’m facing the real possibility of losing my home. I've encountered many unforeseen challenges, and I desperately need your help to get back on my feet. reaching out for support during this difficult time.
In April 2022, after losing my job during the pandemic, I suffered a stroke that required nearly a year of recovery. Despite this, I've remained committed to my community, volunteering with Rethink Food NYC to deliver meals to seniors. I’ve also dedicated much of my spare time to helping fellow recovering alcoholics and addicts - like myself - maintain sobriety. Finding stable employment has been a continuous struggle, however.
I'm now facing eviction due to $36,000 in back rent (1 year and 8 months) and $2,600 in overdue utility bills. My court date is February 26th, and I must provide proof of funds or employment to avoid eviction. I am also contesting the unsafe living conditions in my apartment, including mold, unstable floors, and a mouse infestation.
I have contacted NYC agencies for help, but they are overwhelmed with cases and prioritize families, women with children, and people with disabilities. Due to the current housing crisis in New York City and the lack of available resources, I am at serious risk of homelessness and may have no option but to enter a shelter.
I am humbly asking for your support—no matter the amount—it would mean the world to me. Every dollar will go toward:
• Paying back rent to prevent eviction
• Covering overdue utility bills to turn the lights on and keep them on
• Ensuring I have food while I continue my job search
My goal is to not only get through this crisis but also stabilize my situation and eventually start my own business. My apartment is a three-bedroom in Chinatown, NYC, and once I'm back on my feet, I plan to take on roommates to help reduce expenses.
It’s not easy to ask for help, but I know that we survive by supporting one another. Even if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign with others would greatly help.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for your compassion, for your kindness, and for any support you can offer.
With deep gratitude,
Julio
