Help Me Stay Afloat While I Prioritize Mental Health
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Kate. After 12 years as a teacher in Salinas, I made the incredibly difficult decision to step away from the classroom to focus on my mental health. In March, I entered a treatment facility in Monterey to address burnout and depression—something I had struggled with for a long time.
That experience changed everything. I realized it was time to choose a path that supports both my well-being and my future. I'm now enrolled at Cabrillo College with the goal of becoming a radiology technician, and I’m working hard to complete my prerequisites this summer and fall.
This is a hopeful transition—but financially, it’s extremely difficult. Because of how my leave was processed, I received no paycheck in May, and my June and July pay will be cut in half. Right now, I have about $900 in my account, which doesn’t cover even my basic bills.
I’m raising $1,500 to help cover this month’s essential expenses, including:
Rent ($800)
Student loans ($700/month)
Car, pet, and health insurance
Co-pays for prescription meds, doctor visits, etc.
Phone bill and basic pet care supplies
Any extra money donated will go towards:
Food
Gas
Savings for future basic needs in the months to come
These funds will help me keep a roof over my head, keep my four beloved pets—Nala (dog), Penny (elderly cat), Minerva, and Scratch (cats)—safe and cared for, and stay focused on rebuilding.
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. If you’re unable to give, sharing this page is just as helpful.
Thank you for helping me hold on while I work toward a brighter, healthier future.
With deep gratitude,
Kate
