Hello, everyone!
I’m reaching out for support as I navigate a challenging financial situation. Starting in January, I’ll be paying $480 per month for health insurance. While this coverage is essential, I’m struggling to cover additional costs like copays and my $850 deductible. I chose this health plan because there are several surgeries that I need and this plan covers those 100%. I also need regular mental health care yet that copay is $50 for each session.
I've researched supplemental plans through AFLAC and Cigna. They only offer plans that assist people with Medicare or people that experienced heart attack (which I am close to having due to the stress I've been under), cancer and major issues. If anyone knows any more than I do, please reach out.
I’ve done everything I can to adjust my budget, cutting out all unnecessary expenses, but after paying my monthly bills, I’m left with just $360/month for food, gas, copays, and any unexpected costs. It’s a tight squeeze, and I’m finding it hard to make ends meet.
Why I Need Your Help
I’ve tried to consolidate my debt with personal loans but haven’t been approved. I don’t have assets to secure a loan, so I’m turning to my community for support. Any funds raised will help me:
- Cover medical copays and deductible expenses.
- Afford basic living costs like food and gas.
- Manage emergencies or unexpected expenses.
Transparency & Accountability
I want to be completely transparent with how your generosity will be used. I’ll keep a detailed spreadsheet of all expenses paid with these funds, which will be available to anyone upon request. If you prefer to support in other ways:
Unrestricted cash funds through cash apps will be spent on items I can't put on an Amazon wish list such as my pets preventative care meds, gas for my vehicle. Any purchases will be put on a spreadsheet for transparency. If you choose not to go through GoFundMe, here are my cash app handles:
Cash App: $kimism72
Venmo: @Kim-Waites-3
Paypal: [email redacted]
I also keep an Amazon wish list and will add things as I think of them.
Amazon Wish List: For specific needs Amazon Wish List
I’m more than willing to share my personal budget if you’d like a detailed look at how I’m managing my monthly bills and expenses.
A Note on Alcohol & Drug Use
If you have any concerns about how your contributions will be used, I want to be completely clear: I do not use drugs and am willing to submit to random drug tests at any time. I am not a person with any addictions. As for alcohol, I rarely drink, and when I do, it’s in small amounts.
How You Can Help
Any amount, big or small, will make a difference. If you can’t donate, sharing this campaign with others would mean the world to me.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for considering helping me during this difficult time. Your kindness and support mean everything!
With gratitude,
Kim, Trammel and Purrl
P.S. I want to emphasize that this is truly my last resort. I’m actively searching for part-time remote work, as I need to address a few health issues before I can commit to a full 8-hour shift in person and possibly being on my feet all day. If you know of any remote contract opportunities, please feel free to send them my way—I want to earn my way, not rely on taking. For now, I’m setting my pride aside and leaning into humility to ask for help.
P.S.S. Some people know my story. My background has not been traditional. I've struggled financially all of my adult life and have tried so hard to get above the poverty level. Since 2014, I've made enough salary to put me above the poverty level, get established with a small piece of land and build my modest tiny home. That's the best I could do with the resources available to me. I just don't see how I am going to get my health taken care of in my current situation. I am making just enough to get by and have a place to shelter from the elements. I am always grateful for that one little privilege in this life.
I want to express gratitude to the following for helping me in the past. My finances have seen highs and lows and there have been people that have seen me through other tough times.
Anonymous: A prominent Birmingham family contributed to my college tuition 20 years ago and helped pay utilities at times.
Pat and Jim Thatcher: My mom and stepdad also helped with college tuition and they paid my car payment for a full year in 2011.
Doug Waites: My father absolved some debt I had with him 20 years ago.
Summer of 2023: Whomever contributed to my last GoFundMe appeal.
