Help Me Start This New Chapter at Pratt Institute

Hi everyone,

My name is Nyree, and I’m excited to share that I’ve been accepted into the Graduate Photography Program at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York—my dream school since I was 17.

In February I had a moment I’ll never forget—a quick 3-day trip to Brooklyn turned into a life-changing encounter. I met Spike Lee, and that conversation became the final spark I needed to apply to grad school. Out of all people, a legend, icon, THE GOAT, took time out of his day to talk with me and walk me around his block, arm around my shoulder. That moment reminded me: whatever I put my mind to will happen. That wasn’t luck—it was divine timing. It was my wake-up call to fully walk in my purpose and trust that God will continue putting me where I need to be to grow.

Back then, I couldn’t have imagined this full-circle moment becoming a reality. After earning my degree in Art from URI, I dove into freelance work and focused on experiencing life as a creative. Grad school wasn’t on my radar—until something shifted at the start of 2024. I felt this deep inner call: “It’s time.”

I knew two things: I wanted to study at an art school, and I wanted to be in New York. Pratt was the first place I looked up—and I haven’t looked back since.

Getting here hasn’t been easy. As many artists know, it’s tough to find consistent, good-paying work doing what you love. But I’ve stayed committed to my journey, my growth, and my community. I’m a first-generation college student, raised by my incredible mother—a strong, supportive single parent who has always believed in me and just wants the best for her kids. I carry her love, sacrifice, and strength with me in everything I do.

This is the biggest leap I’ve taken yet. It’s my first time moving out of Rhode Island, getting my own apartment, and starting this new chapter in Brooklyn. I’m asking for help to cover the remainder of my tuition after receiving a scholarship and taking out student loans. Your support will also help with housing and moving expenses so I can fully step into this next chapter without the constant weight of financial worry. Anything helps, and I truly appreciate every share, donation, and word of encouragement.

This isn’t just for me—it’s for every little girl or boy who dreams of living a creative life. If you believe in your dream, stay humble, pray, and manifest the life you want, it can happen.

Like Mr. Lee told me—move with urgency.
Yes, we may have time—but we never know how much. So don’t just dream—do.

With love and gratitude,
Nyree
