On January 27, my life changed dramatically when I woke up with a stroke. Since then, I’ve been on a long journey of recovery, moving from the hospital to intensive rehab, and then to a neuro-restorative center in San Antonio. I’ve spent months working hard in therapy, determined to regain my strength and independence. Recently, I was moved to a transitional nursing unit, which is my last stop before being released. I’ll be here until September 27, and after that, I need to move to Houston to start the next chapter of my life.
I’ve found an apartment in Channelview that’s fully wheelchair accessible, with handicap showers and restrooms, and it’s furnished with all bills paid. This is a huge step toward regaining my independence, but I need help covering the deposit and transportation costs to get there. My disability deposit won’t arrive until after I move, so I’m at risk of being homeless until those funds come in. I do have some family and a support system in Channelview, but I’m starting over and need a little help to get settled.
The stroke has changed everything for me. I’ve lost the life I had before, and while I’ve had friends check in on me, I’ve mostly been alone through this journey. This move represents a new beginning—a chance to rebuild, continue my recovery, and find stability. Any support will help me secure a safe place to live and make this transition as smooth as possible.
