This year I was invited to go spend Christmas with my best friend in eastern Washington. She’s basically on the Idaho border. We’ve been best friends for over 20 years now. We spent many years living very far from one another. Now that she’s living in the same state as me again, a road trip is all it’s takes to be together! Any time her and I get to be together, it’s therapeutic for both of our souls. There’s something about being in the presence of someone you know loves you unconditionally, doesn’t judge you, and only wants the best that life can offer you. She’s truly the closet I’ve ever come to having a sister. Like I said, we have been best friends for over 20 years now and we’ve been through some crazy times. She has always forgiven me for my wrongdoings and has never stopped loving me.

Christmas in my home has felt empty and painful since the loss of my only sibling, Jake. For years, my family and I have struggled to find joy in the holidays, sometimes skipping them altogether. This year, the thought of another lonely Christmas was weighing heavily on me. My parents just aren’t in the Christmas spirit this year, which I understand. My bestie gave me the opportunity to come spend it with her and I would love nothing more than to go be with her.
