Help me ski again with a new adaptive sitski

Donation protected
To start, if you don’t know me I want to introduce myself to you. My name is Steve Lau and I have had a spinal cord inury (SCI) since 2002. August 25, 2002 I fell 30-40ft off of a bridge and sustained a T7 complete SCI. I rebuilt my life since 2002 and eventually returned to school and became a medical social worker. I was lucky enough to get hired as a medical social worker in the same acute rehab that I did my SCI rehab in. I am fortunately able to work with others who experience all types of disabilities but best of all I get to guide the younger traumatic SCI to live fulfilling lives.

I enjoy the outdoors and sports. I began participating with a local adaptive sports program BORP.org. I participated in wheelchair basketball, coached as an assistant coach for the youth wheelchair basketball team. Ive also done handcycling, off-road handcycling, triathlons and running events in my race chair. I am also a proud father of twins and because of the time and dedication to them I’ve transitioned to becoming a member of the board and now am the board president for BORP. Elliot an Evelyn are now 7.5yo.

I own an extremely old Revolution Pro Comp sitski that was designed in the 1990’s. I bought this one used in 2009 for about $1000 and have been able to ski it until the twins were born. This year I put in a large effort to ski again and fell in love with it all over again. I am progressively and slowly returning to the recreational intermediate skier that I was prior to the twins being born. While taking lessons I was told to keep my sitski in storage and try all of the new equipment. The technology of the new skies has progressed so much and I noticed once the sitski was setup to me properly I was able to ski like I used to prior to when the twins were born.

Asking for help is such a hard thing for me to do. I received a grant from the Kelly Brush foundation but need to raise more funds to cover the $10,000 Tessier Scarver sit ski including shipping from France. For a simple ski and binding system most able body individuals can probably spend about a $1000 for a moderate setup for skiing. Unfortunately adaptive sports equipment is lower in demand and cost much more to build because it is almost completely custom made.

Any contribution you can provide will be very very appreciated. Please share and help me spread the word.
