Curated - Every Story Deserves to be Remembered
Help bring a documentary about forgotten wartime histories to festivals, classrooms and communities.
"Curated" is an 85-minute independent documentary about the veterans, women, Indigenous people, LGBTQ+ service members and animals whose wartime stories are often left out. We need to raise CAD $2,000 by Remembrance Day, November 11, 2026, as our initial goal to submit it to film festivals and put it in front of universities, museums and veterans’ groups.

From a forgotten storeroom
In July 2021, I walked into an overwhelming collection storeroom at a Royal Canadian Legion branch in Toronto. It was more than a room full of objects. It was a collection of histories waiting to be rediscovered.
With no outside funding, I set out to turn it into a working mini-museum. Volunteers joined in, giving their time and skills and by Remembrance Day 2022 we had created an educational space for visitors of all ages. I filmed the whole journey: the exhaustion, the discoveries, the frustrations and the generosity of strangers.
The Legion branch later ended its partnership with our team and our work. What remains is this film.
More than a museum
As the museum took shape, a bigger question emerged: who gets remembered in our telling of history?
With personal accounts and contributions from international scholars and experts, "Curated" explores experiences that rarely appear in mainstream wartime narratives:
- Veterans and their families: the lasting impact of PTSD, including testimony from a veteran’s daughter.
- Women overlooked by history: including Indigenous women and women of colour.
- LGBTQ+ service members: those who served when simply being themselves was criminalized.
- Animals in wartime: the unacknowledged labour and suffering of animals used in conflict.
Where your $2,000 goes
CAD$1300-$1600 to Festival submissions aimed at documentary, human rights, veterans’, Indigenous, LGBTQ+ and animal advocacy festivals.
Press kit and outreach: An electronic press kit, promotional materials and outreach to festival programmers.
CAD$500 Educational and community screenings: Screening copies and relevant expenses to approach universities, museums, historical societies and veterans’ organizations.
The goal isn’t only to screen a film. It’s to start conversations about whose histories we preserve and what remembrance means today.
Why trust this project
I’ve made independent documentaries on social and animal justice for 20 years. My films have won over 10 awards at 20 international festivals, including the San Pedro Film Festival in California, the Animal Liberation Film Festival in Melbourne and the Amsterdam Film Festival, Holland. Dr Jane Goodall appeared in one of my films endorsing its animal welfare message.
"Curated" is my most personal film. It began with no production budget, just personal savings and volunteers who believed these stories mattered. It is an independent production, filmed at a Legion branch.
