I’ve spent 20 years supporting students impacted by policy. Now I have been selected to help shape it.

Hola Everyone!

I am honored to share that I have been selected for the LBJ Women’s Campaign School at the University of Texas at Austin. This is a program that prepares women to step into leadership roles and shape public policy.

For nearly 20 years, I have worked in education, supporting students who are too often overlooked by the systems meant to serve them. I see firsthand every day how policy decisions directly impact student behavior, access, and opportunity, especially for Black and Brown students in underserved communities.

I think back to a student who was constantly being removed from class for his behavior. What I saw was not defiance, but a lack of support. No access to counseling, inconsistent interventions, and policies that focused more on punishment than understanding. That experience has stayed with me. It’s one of the reasons I am pursuing this work, because students like him deserve to be in schools that have systems that support students, not push them out.

This program is more than a professional opportunity for me. It is a step toward being in the rooms where decisions are made, where I can advocate for policies to create a real, lasting change for the students and families I serve.

I have received a $1,000 scholarship, and my flight is covered, but I still need to raise $2,000 to cover the remaining costs of tuition, lodging, and meals.

I am asking for support in small amounts. If enough people give $15-$25, this goal becomes possible. Every contribution is not just helping me attend this program; it is an investment in stronger advocacy, better policy, and more equitable outcomes for our children.
