Help Me Secure Safe Transportation: Support a Trans Man's Journey to Work

Hello everyone,

My name is Asher, your local fat trans friend. Today I am swallowing what little pride I have and I'm reaching out to my community with a request for support. I’ve been facing significant challenges in my daily commute to work and am looking for money to purchase a reliable car that can take me to and from work.

On November 7th, my car was totaled one month after I purchased it. Insurance wouldn’t cover the cost of my loan, though I fought with them for two months to try and get them to raise their appraisal of my vehicle. I am now left with a $7,262.98 pay off balance for my car loan. This means I have a car loan without a car that I am working towards repaying.

Since the accident, I've been relying on public transportation, enduring a 4-5 hour round trip each day. I’m lucky enough to have a support system that has given me rides to and from work when they can. I wouldn’t have made it this long without their help and kindness. Unfortunately, my experience with public transit hasn't been without its dangers— and I need to seek out something more sustainable.

On January 11th I was assaulted on the bus and have been working through anxiety that has come from that ever since. While I’m used to people yelling and saying rude comments (I’m a fat, funky dressing fruit after all), this was the first time I was put into physical danger. Nobody stood up to help or assist me and I’m always worried this will happen again with worse consequences than a punch.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, navigating through the world can present unique obstacles, and transportation is no exception. The stress and anxiety of my daily commute have taken a toll on my mental and physical well-being. I continue to burn out and lose precious time to take care of myself and my needs. However, I remain committed to my job and supporting myself financially.

That's why I'm reaching out to you today. I'm humbly asking for your help to raise funds to purchase a reliable car. With a vehicle of my own, I can finally travel to and from work safely and efficiently. Having a car would not only save me valuable time but also provide me with the peace of mind knowing that I can commute without fear of harm.
