Hi, I’m Jaie.
I've been putting this off for a week, afraid that writing this would block any possible blessing and pave the way to an unwanted reality.
I’m reaching out because my dog, Ms. Phylis Wheatley —aka "Queen P"—is reaching the end of her life.
Phylis is an 11.5-year-old Great Dane from Moncure, North Carolina, raised in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, and she’s been my girl for over 11 years.
I was laid off from my job on July 11th (and I’m still in the middle of severance negotiations so I’m not in a financial position to cover the final costs I know are coming). Two days later, on July 13th, Phylis lost strength in her back legs. Within the following week, she couldn’t stand at all. And now—just this week—she’s barely eating. It’s all happening much faster than I expected, and at a time I truly didn’t see coming.
I’m not euthanizing her. She’s not in pain—she’s just tired. And I trust that when it’s time, she’ll let me know. I just want to be ready when she is.
I’m asking for help to cover the cost of:
- A communal cremation
- One-way transportation to the facility in Queens
I’m estimating the cost at around $1200, depending on her final weight and transport needs. Any support—whether it’s a donation or just sharing this—means more than I can express.
Thank you for helping me give Ms. Phylis Wheatley a peaceful, dignified goodbye.
Thank you for seeing us.
Jaie
