Stanley is sick:(. In the 10 years I've had Stan he's never been ill but boy is he sick now. Somehow he got a bacterial infection in his guttural pouches. His neck is swollen and he can't breath properly. He's been treated for an infection for over a month now and I've been losing my mind because he has not been responding to the meds. Tonight I was with him and he started to struggle and had significant trouble breathing so I rushed him to the vet. They are doing surgery tomorrow, and there is a possibility that we may have to ship him across the border (for another surgery) where we can get him laser surgery if the guttural pouch is fused shut.
I didn't want to have to ask for help, i've paid $1400 for his treatment so far which is manageable for me but they have quoted me $4000-$6000 on top of what I have already paid to do his surgeries and they want half upfront and the rest soon after. This is a complete disaster. I'm not trying to get all his bills paid, but any contributions are so helpful and so appreciated.
Stanley is an otherwise completely healthy 14 year old rescued standardbred. He was given to me by a racehorse rescue, they couldn't adopt him out, he was adopted out twice and returned both times and he was on the website longer than any of the other horses. I've had him for 10 years now and I'll do anything to save him.
UPDATE:
So what we thought was a complication due to an infection in his guttural pouch turned out to be a massive tumour:(. The tumour is a lymphoma and it's about the size of a grapefruit in his throat and was pushing on his guttural pouch which caused the infection. They did X-rays on his chest today and the tumour has not spread it's contained which makes him a good candidate for radiation treatment. He happens to be in one of the few places in North America that can treat a horse with radiation. He's got a team of vets caring for him right now including an oncologist who thinks we have a reasonable chance at saving him with this treatment so we are going to do it. He starts his radiation on Thursday and if all goes well he should be back home in Langley within 2 weeks. Our vet bills at the end of all this will end up around $15,000 Canadian so anything people can contribute is appreciated ❤
