A few nights ago in Oaxaca, Mexico, I found a tiny kitten alone on the street. He was only about six weeks old, severely underweight, with one eye sealed shut and the other glazed over and infected. He was sneezing, congested, and clearly struggling.
There were other cats nearby, but he was too young and too sick to survive on his own. I couldn’t leave him there.
I brought him to a vet that same night. The vet confirmed he had a serious eye infection, respiratory symptoms, fever and started him on medication immediately. He’s now safe, warm, eating, and beginning to recover, but he has a long road ahead.
I named him Sobo.
Because Sobo is so young and was rescued in critical condition, his care is front-loaded and ongoing. So far, I’ve already covered the initial emergency consult, initial medications, food, and supplies out of pocket. Over the next weeks and months, he will need:
• Follow-up veterinary visits
• Multiple rounds of core kitten vaccinations
• Rabies vaccination (required for travel)
• Deworming and flea treatment
• A health certificate and airline pet fee to eventually bring him safely back to Canada
• Neuter surgery when he’s old enough
I’m fully committed to giving Sobo a safe, healthy life. This fundraiser isn’t about convenience, it’s about responsibly caring for a rescue kitten who would not have survived without immediate help.
I’m asking for support to help cover the remaining veterinary and travel-related costs so I can continue his care without risking financial instability. Any funds raised will go directly toward Sobo’s medical treatment, vaccinations, and safe transport. If there are funds left over, they will be set aside for his future vet care or donated to local animal rescue efforts.
If you’re able to donate or share, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Even small contributions make a real difference. Sobo is already showing so much fight and trust, and with continued care, he has the chance to grow into a healthy, happy cat.
Thank you for helping me give him that chance.
