Hello, my name is Maria. I am currently studying and working a side job, I have to pay for my own studies because my parents can’t really help.I don’t want to talk too much about myself because this isn’t about me. My cat, who I’ve had since a baby, has recently gotten very ill. He lost 300 grams in a week. We took him to the vet and we were told that he had a very serious kidney condition and hypertension. He has stage 4 kidney failure. This means that his kidneys are extremely damaged and cannot do their function properly. Kidneys are supposed to filter out any waste in the blood. However with a stage 4 kidney failure their role is highly decreased. This leads to Simba having very high toxicity levels in his blood ( the main substance being urea). These toxic levels make him constantly nauseous, and severely affects his brain. It lets it know that the kidneys have to work more and make his heart beat faster in order to filter out his blood. However all of this combined means his heart is beating at a seriously dangerous rate and the kidneys are still not doing their job.The normal of a beating heart 80/120, he has 162/200. With him being so skinny and weak his heart could give out at any moment. We are doing everything we can to help. We give him 3 pills a day, one for hypertension, one for nausea and one for his kidneys. We also only give him a special food : royal cannin special renal. However this isn’t enough. With his kidneys being so affected the only way to help him is by replacing them. Kidney tissue does not regenerate, what is lost cannot be recovered which makes the only option to save him surgery. This surgery would replace one of his kidneys with a healthy one from a donor cat. The cat who donates the kidney will then be adopted by us, as this is required and the right thing to do. Some people might say why not euthanize him? That is selfish of you to want to keep him alive if he’s suffering. My response to that is: would you do that with a person? I mean eventually if that person decides that they don’t want to live because of how much pain they’re in. But is it your decision to make? Isn’t that murder then? I am not religious so this has nothing to do with that. I think that you cannot take someone’s life away when that’s all they have left. Simba still shows signs of wanting to live. He looks for comfort in us. I cannot give up on him as long as he doesn’t give up on himself. I have had Simba since he was a baby and I cannot extinguish that life that I so dearly took care of for years. So my one wish is that you understand and help me in any way that you can. I am taking extra shifts in order to help but it isn’t nearly enough. I would hate myself forever knowing that the only reason why I couldn’t save him was because of money
