Help Me Save My Personal Superhero - My Mom

Donation protected
On September 3, 2020 my mom - the strongest person in the world that I know - was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. By the time it was detected, it had already spread to her bones. I moved her from Michigan to Los Angeles to stay with me while we did our best to kick cancer's ass and create new memories that would last us forever.

This past Thursday, December 2, 2021 my mom was admitted to Cedars-Sinai where we would find out that the cancer has spread to her spinal fluid, skull, and the lining of her brain. Right now, the cancer has left her with Bell's Palsy on the left side of her face and is currently attacking her hearing and vision on the right side of her face. Through it all, she remains in as good spirits as one could be given the circumstances - cracking jokes and being the pillar of strength she has always been throughout my and my siblings entire lives as a single mother with absolutely no help.

My mom has lead a tough 63 years of life, having endured hardships and pains that would cause a normal person to buckle instantly. She's my superhero, my rock, and I don't honestly know who I will be without her. The thought of her not being here is way too much for me to bare. Her entire life she has defied the odds, whether it was becoming a race car driver in Houston in 1983 where she would race backwards or outperforming the men at the Rouge Steel plant in Dearborn, MI that took away both of her hips and her gall bladder amongst other things.

Currently, she's undergoing whole brain radiation to beat back the symptoms of her cancer spread and to retain some sort of quality of life. There's no guarantee the radiation will work and her prognosis is very grim even if it does work.

My current apartment where we live is no longer suitable to her medical needs and I am in dire need of moving to a more ADA compliant place with no stairs and a walk-in shower so that she can hold tight to as much of her independence and dignity as possible. We're prepared for the inevitable with life insurance but one thing you're never prepared for is a rapidly declining quality of life, especially when it's unexpected. On top of that, her current condition makes it impossible for us to move back home to Michigan where we have more support so we're here in Los Angeles, at the mercy of the treatment she's currently undergoing.

We could really use all the help we can get in covering a security deposit, moving expenses, ensuring our new place is ADA compliant and set up for her to succeed, and help with home health care expenses. Anything you could give would mean the world to us as I just want to make sure my mom is as happy and as comfortable during this time.
