**Help Me Save My Life for My Son, Milo**
Hi, my name is Allison. I’m 54 years old, and I am morbidly obese. I weigh 315 lbs at just under 5'4", and my weight is killing me. I’ve carried the scars of unresolved childhood trauma for most of my life, mistaking achievements and busyness for healing. Now, after nearly a year of therapy, I’m finally learning how to take responsibility for the ways I’ve sabotaged myself—how my reactions to life’s challenges have held me back. I’m beginning to find peace and contentment in the smallest, most ordinary parts of life. But now I face my biggest challenge yet: saving my own life.
Obesity runs in my family. My mother and grandmother both passed away far too young—my mom at 54 and my grandmother at 62—both from obesity related heart failure. I don’t want to follow in their footsteps, especially not when I have my amazing son, Milo, who depends on me. At just 10 years old, he’s full of life and dreams, and he deserves to have his mom around to support him as he grows.
I’ve tried so many ways to lose weight—diets, meal plans, and everything in between—but nothing has worked for me. I’m battling multiple disabilities, including fibromyalgia, hypermobility Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and the aftereffects of thyroid cancer that left me without a thyroid. Movement is incredibly painful, and the extra weight makes it worse. I’m also navigating menopause, which makes weight loss even harder.
The NHS agreed years ago that bariatric surgery was my best option, but after six years of waiting and countless administrative errors, I no longer have the luxury of time. My health is deteriorating, and every day I wait, I’m moving closer to an early death.
I’m ready to take action to save my life. After researching my options, I’ve decided to pursue a gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey. It’s much more affordable than private surgery in the UK (£3,000 compared to £15,000), and I’m fortunate to have a trusted emergency contact there—my ex-partner, Ozer, who is a doctor. (PhD - so would garner respect from other Turks and also offers an added layer of protection).
I’ve managed to save £1,500 so far, but I need help raising the remaining £3,500 to cover the surgery, travel, and medical insurance. I’ve already put down a deposit to secure the surgery date, and if I don’t proceed by May, I’ll lose it.
This isn’t an easy thing for me to ask for. I know my weight is a result of my own struggles and choices, but I also know that I can’t overcome this alone. I’ve fought so hard to heal the emotional wounds that have held me back, but now I need help to heal my body.
I’m asking for your support—not just for me, but for Milo, who deserves a mom who can stick around, cheer him on, and be there for all the milestones in his life. If you can help, whether through a donation or simply by sharing my story, I’ll be forever grateful.
This is my chance to turn things around, to reclaim my health and my life, and to give Milo the mom he deserves.
Thank you so much for reading, for caring, and for wishing me well.
With love,
Allison
