My house has always been a place of comfort and refuge for many people. Over the years, friends and family have taken shelter here when times were hard or when they needed a place to rest and reset. The laughter of children fills the rooms during our gatherings, and neighborhood fur babies often stop by to say hello. In the tiny backyard, there’s a pond with goldfish, and the air is filled with the scent of rosemary, mint, and lavender. Hummingbirds buzz by as you drink your morning coffee. The kitchen is always open, providing food for family, friends, neighbors, and even those in need from our community.
For the last year, I have been dealing with missing paychecks and repeated promises that I would be paid when escrow closed on the truckstop where I worked. I put in my hours and did my best to keep things running, reassured by the realtor that we would get paid once escrow closed. But when it finally did, we were not paid. Thankfully, I now have a job with the new owner and can pay my bills going forward. However, without the back pay I earned and counted on, I can’t catch up on my house payments. Like many Americans, I live just a few paychecks away from losing my home, and this is a very humbling experience.
I truly love my home and don’t want to lose it—or the ability to help and host others. All donations will go straight to the mortgage company to catch up on missed payments and help me keep my home. Any support you can offer would mean the world to me. Thank you for reading and for considering a donation.
