My name is Kristin, and my heart is broken. Recently, I’ve had to say goodbye to two of my beloved dogs — one by heartbreaking circumstance and another from health issues that left me with no choice. Losing them has left a hole in my life that words can hardly describe, but it’s also inspired me to turn my pain into purpose: to help other dogs who are suffering and chained up with no love, no attention, and no hope.
A few years ago, I rescued a dog who was being abused by a neighbor. He had been left outside in a shed for two days with no food or water in over 100° heat. I couldn’t take it anymore — I went and got him myself. His coat was rough, his eyes were empty, and he was so thirsty that I’ll never forget the sound of him drinking that first bowl of water. It broke my heart, but it also filled it — because I knew I had saved him.
Over time, he became my best friend. Sadly, trauma and fear had changed him, and despite all my love, he became aggressive. One day, he turned on my son, and in trying to protect my child, I was badly hurt too. It was the hardest, most painful moment of my life — to choose between the dog I loved and the safety of my child. The county made me put him down, and I’ve lived with that heartbreak and guilt ever since.
Not long after, my other German Shepherd — my loyal boy who had been with me since he was a pup — lost the use of his back legs due to spinal issues. Yesterday, I had to make that impossible decision again and say goodbye.
Now, there’s a little female German Shepherd down the road, owned by an elderly man. She’s chained up most of the time, but he allows me to take her for walks and give her love. Spending time with her helps heal me, but it’s also made me realize how many dogs in my community are living the same way — forgotten, chained, and alone.
That’s why I want to start a fund — to help dogs like her.
My goal is to raise money to help:
• Provide food, clean water, and vet care for neglected or chained dogs.
• Build safe enclosures or shelters for dogs living outside.
• Offer resources and education to local owners who may not know better options.
• Connect with people willing to rehome or foster dogs that deserve a second chance at life.
Every dollar will go toward helping dogs in my area who need love and care — the kind of love my two dogs gave me, and that I’ll carry with me forever.
If you’ve ever loved an animal, you know the unconditional love they give. Please help me honor my dogs’ memories by saving others. Together, we can make sure no animal has to suffer alone on a chain again.
❤️ Thank you from the bottom of my heart — for reading, sharing, or donating.
