I adopted Dexter from the Montreal spca in March of 2014. I had went just to look, as soon as I saw him I fell in love. He had been found as a stray and was on a hold for a week and no one came to look for him. The day he was put up for adoption is the day I went to the spca. I always thought we were meant to be. The next day I picked him up after he was neutered and the rest is history.
He is the sweetest, funniest, sassiest, most gentle (most of the time) best cuddler. I really lucked out with him. He has been by my side through everything. In February of 2020 I unexpectedly lost my mom, then the pandemic happened and I was completely devastated and alone. I don’t think i would have survived that without Dexter.
He has always been a healthy little (chubby) guy. He has a few lipomas but that’s just because he’s well fed right? Last summer I noticed he had a lump on his neck but I just assumed it was another lipoma. It felt like his other and hasn’t grown since I noticed it.
About a month ago I noticed the left side of his face seemed sunken in, I thought maybe he’s just old. Then it seemed to get worse quickly so I brought him to the vet, they said they’d never seen that. He thought the lump in his neck might be a tumor and wanted to do blood tests. His calcium levels were high and that could indicate a tumour. They wanted to jump right into a biopsy and I decided to get a second opinion.
The second vet I saw thought it was a lipoma but sent off a sample to the lab to make sure. Turns out it was a lipoma. He also thought dex might have a sheath tumour as his facial muscles had atrophied.
To diagnosis sheath tumor he needs to get an MRI or CT scan which are really expensive. I’ve already spent quite a lot of money at the previous vet with tests.
Dexter means the world to me and I can’t just not do anything. I’ve never had an easy time asking for help, but I need help trying to save dex
