Hi Everyone!
A little over a year ago, I decided to take on running as a hobby. Every year, for my birthday, I challenge myself to grow by stepping outside my comfort zone. Running has always been a struggle for me, but I wanted to get better, to push past the limits I had set for myself. In October, I crossed a huge milestone completing my very first half marathon!
Since then, the challenges have gotten bigger, and I’ve set my sights on something even more incredible: the 2025 Chicago Marathon! But this time it’s about more than just crossing the finish line for me. I want to run with purpose.
That’s why I’ve decided to run the Chicago Marathon to raise funds for a cause that’s close to my heart: ALIVE Rescue. This organization is doing extraordinary work to give abandoned and neglected dogs a chance at a better life. It’s a cause that motivates me every day as I train, knowing that the miles I run are helping to save lives.
Below is a story about one of ALIVE Rescue’s most recent rescues that truly touched my heart.
Coral’s Story:
As the year came to a close, ALIVE Rescue knew their final save of 2024 had to be meaningful. When they learned about a puppy at animal control, they knew she was the one. Her name was Coral, and her story is a testament to the love and dedication that ALIVE Rescue brings to every animal they save.
Coral had been suffering from double cherry eye, and it was also reported that she had a severe heart murmur. Her chances of being saved or adopted were slim. But ALIVE Rescue didn’t hesitate—they welcomed her into their family.
Before leaving animal control, Coral underwent surgery to repair her cherry eye. Unfortunately, the surgeries didn’t succeed, and she’ll need additional procedures to correct them. The most heart-wrenching part of Coral’s journey, however, was her heart condition. Initially, vets diagnosed her with a grade 4 heart murmur, but further testing revealed the heartbreaking truth: Coral has a grade 5 heart murmur. This condition, known as pulmonary stenosis, is a congenital defect of the pulmonary valve, and it will require heart surgery to give her a chance at a long life.
Thanks to ALIVE Rescue’s unwavering commitment, Coral will receive the life-saving surgery she desperately needs. But the financial cost of these surgeries is significant, and that’s where your support comes in.
By donating to my marathon fundraiser, you are directly helping to provide the medical care, surgeries, and forever homes for dogs like Coral. Every dollar brings us one step closer to giving these dogs the life they deserve.
Thank you so much for your support!! It means the world to me, and even more to the animals whose lives we’re changing together!
