UPDATE: Maple had her surgery on Monday, and we brought her home on Tuesday. Per the vet’s strict instructions, she has to stay in her crate, which is definitely a challenge for such an energetic pup. She’s also wearing a cone collar and a harness, both of which she finds pretty bothersome.
For the first five days post-op, it’s all about bed rest, ice packs, and medication. After that, we can start physical therapy to help with her recovery. We have a follow-up appointment in 14 days to check on her progress.
Please keep Maple in your thoughts and prayers as we do our best to keep her comfortable and calm during this tough time. We truly appreciate all of your love and support!

Hi, my name is Maple, and I need your help!
At the beginning of January, my previous owner slipped on the ice. Luckily, I was there to catch his fall—but it really hurt. My leg ached for weeks, and I was limping a lot. When we went to the doggy doctor, they said fixing it would cost a lot of money, so we went home with bottles of little crunchy tabs that my previous owner wrapped in peanut butter to help alleviate the pain.
In the beginning of February, my previous owner went on vacation and left me with Nicholas and Nicole. They have a big fenced-in yard where I love to lay in the sun and chew on sticks! After just two days at their house, they couldn’t bear to watch me limp and took me back to the doggy doctor. This time, they did something called X-rays. Whatever the doggy doctor told Nicole made her really sad.
It turns out that when my previous owner fell on me, the impact cut off the nerves to my femoral head, and I developed something called Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease. Basically, my back leg hurts a lot, and I need a special surgery called an FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) to fix it. But because I wasn’t treated right away, I started relying too much on my other leg, and now my knee is displaced—I need screws put in that leg too.
After surgery, I’ll need to go to a place called physical therapy to learn how to walk, run, and play again. Nicholas and Nicole are doing everything they can to help me, but my medical bills are adding up fast. That’s why I’m asking for your help.
Any donation, big or small, will help me get the care I need so I can live a happy, pain-free life. If you can’t donate, please share my story! Thank you for helping me heal—I can’t wait to run and play again!
With love and tail wags,
Maple
