Faith is at the center of my journey. It has given me strength, hope, and the belief that I can overcome any challenge. I am a first-generation college student-athlete. Currently working toward a future in competitive rowing. I am raising funds to cover tuition, a racing camp, and essential costs, including room and board, nutrition, transportation, and training support that will help me take the next step in my development.
Rowing is more than a sport to me. It is where I learned discipline, resilience, and identity. It shaped how I approach challenges and gave me direction for my future. My goal is to row at a professional level after college and help increase representation for African American athletes in this sport.
I discovered rowing in 2021 while working full time in high school. I was navigating uncertainty in my life and learning how to stay focused while building consistency in my environment. I leaned on my community and my faith to stay grounded and keep moving forward. Rowing became the place where I found structure and purpose. Since then I have stayed committed. Early mornings, hard training, and support from my mentors, teammates, community, and faith have helped me continue building step by step. What started as something new became something I chose to fully commit to.
Now I have been given an opportunity that could change my path. I have been invited to attend the Sockeye Racing Camp hosted by College Club Seattle. This is a high-performance training program preparing athletes for the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. It will provide elite coaching, structured training, and race preparation at a level I have been working toward for years.
The funds raised will go directly toward my camp tuition as well as the costs that make this opportunity possible, including room and board, nutrition, transportation, and training-related expenses. At the same time, I am continuing my education. That matters just as much. College is where I am building stability, academic growth, and long-term opportunity beyond sport. Both of these paths matter. Together they will help me grow as an athlete, earn my degree, and build a platform to increase representation for African American athletes in rowing. I want younger athletes to see that they belong in this sport too.
This opportunity is time-sensitive and without support it is out of reach. With it, I can step into an environment that will meaningfully shape my future. Representation matters. Access matters. Opportunities like this create change. Any support whether donating, sharing, or simply reading my story means more than I can say. Thank you for helping me move one stroke closer to my future.
