Help Overcome Health Issues and Return to Science

Donation protected
Hello,
I am Dmitry Ravcheev, a biologist and bioinformatician. After obtaining my M.Sc. in virology and Ph.D. in bioinformatics in Moscow, Russia, I worked in San Diego (California, USA), Luxembourg, and Galway (Ireland). I co-authored over 30 scientific articles (https://tinyurl.com/46tjufhs) and supervised multiple students, who successfully obtained their degrees.
In 2021, I joined a startup in Carlow, Ireland; however, the startup later changed its marketing strategy, resulting in several scientists having to leave.
This unfortunate event coincided with my health issues: in 2019, I was diagnosed with endogenous depression, and in 2023, with type II diabetes. Both these conditions make it very difficult for me to work properly. I can work as intensively as I did before, but I cannot do it for a long time. After a long workday, I am almost unable to work the next day. This problem may be resolved through medication treatment, but it typically requires several months.
In addition to my health issues, bureaucracy created additional problems. In October 2024, I applied for an extension of my working permit in Ireland. After 6 months of waiting, I got an extension for my residence permit, but not a work permit. To have a work permit, I need to find a job and then apply for the permit.
During the next months, I hope to reduce the impact of my health issues and find a new job in academic science. Unfortunately, right now I am unable to work properly, and, because of that, I face extremely serious financial problems.
Before continuing, I would like to say how you can help me beyond donations:
- You can leave a comment with an advance on how I can improve this text
- You can share the link to my GoFundMe page anywhere you would like: https://gofund.me/86e62164
Here are the monthly expenses:
- Apartment rent: €950 monthly. It is expensive, but there are no cheaper apartments in Ireland now. I pay €950 only because I have lived here for almost 4 years
- Internet: €60 monthly
- Mobile: €20 monthly
- Medical insurance: €60 monthly
- Electricity: €100-150 monthly
- Other expenses (food, clothing, household, etc.): €100-200 monthly
- In November 2025, I’ll have to make a one-time €300 payment, the fee for an extension of the residence permit

To keep you informed about my expenses and progress, I will provide updates at least every week. Please, do not hesitate to comment or ask me questions.
Sincerely,
Dmitry A. Ravcheev, PhD
