My journey through stage three breast cancer changed everything. The treatments were grueling, and chemotherapy left me with dilated cardiomyopathy, making me disabled. As a single mom of two boys, I faced these challenges with little support, especially after my marriage ended during this difficult time. Losing my hair was the second hardest part of cancer—my marriage was the hardest. Every day, I am reminded of what I’ve lost, but I am determined to find hope and healing for myself and my children.
Reattaching my locs after such a loss—of both my breasts and my marriage—means more to me than words can say. Getting my locs back will not only give me the confidence to face the world again, but it will also help me cope with depression. I honestly hate seeing the way I look now, but with help, I can begin to feel like myself once more. I am also working with a tattoo artist for my final reconstruction, which is another important step in my healing journey.
Any support would mean the world to me and my boys as I work to rebuild my life. Your kindness and generosity will help me move forward, regain my sense of self, and show my children the power of community. Thank you for being part of my story.
